The Journal of Laryngology and Otology (JLO) is a leading month journal covering otology, rhinology and laryngology. Now established for over 130 years, the JLO has over 115,000 searchable archived pages available for members of the Cambridge Core website and is used by specialist in the field of ENT from across the world.

Providing a full list of archives, the JLO website also contains a host of other resources, an events section, news articles videos and the ability to submit your own article. This content rich hub of information is the go to place for those interested in the topics on offer, whether for research / training purposes, to find an event / articles or simply out of general interest.

As a content-fuelled website, it was important that the website is easy to use for both reader and administrator – something we’ve accomplished within this bespoke website design.

High level functionality

From the planning stages, we understood the JLO website draws in a large volume of traffic via a range of devices and browsers. Practitioners and Trainees as well as Medical Librarians make up a large proportion of the user demographic and based on previous statistics, their purpose is to either post an event or submit an article. It’s important that this user type was accommodated with the new website and therefore the structure, search parameters and ease of navigation become highly important aspects of the project. The new website's improved UX enables users to navigate through large volumes of information with ease whilst seamless integration with the Cambridge Core archives means data is continuously synced and in real time.
